![]() Of course this was sweeter than the Bordeauxs but as 2010 is a structured Napa vintage and Opus is a rather old-worldish Napa, it presented itself more like a slutty and sexy 2009 Bordeaux than a Napa monster. This outshined Lafite & Latour as both wines still were not ready and a bit muted but it was easily bested by the Mouton. Tasted blind, added as a pirate in a large Bordeaux 2010 10 years on tasting (served in an all blind flight along Mouton Rothschild, Lafite and Latour). For my money, I'd rather buy a bottle of Monte Bello that has that concentration AND balance that I'm looking for, as well as a lower price tag.ģ people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No I'd like to see a bit more grip and definition but that's just my personal taste - other will disagree. I like a wine with a beginning, a middle and an end - this is all about the middle. I find the fruit is almost too sweet and the tannins too mellow which give it a very rich core of fruit in the middle but not much on either side. I have no doubt this is top quality stuff and many (most?) will love it, but it's a bit too much for me. The tannins are perfectly smooth and there's just enough acidity to hold it together. Sweet sun-kissed fruit - blackcurrants, raspberries and a sweet dark bloody core, like ripe Merlot. I'm reminded of Pontet Canet in a warm year. The nose is all Pauillac - blackcurrants, cigar box, graphite and a hint of sous bois. Looks very healthy and glossy in the glass. Very dark purple with little sign of age. ![]() gouldcampbell77 Likes this wine: 92 Points ![]()
